What guides our journalism
We value accuracy, fairness, and transparency. Every story should answer what happened, why it matters today, and who is affected. We separate news from opinion. We give proper context so readers can make sense of fast moving events.
Sourcing and verification
Reporters prefer primary sources. That means official records, direct quotes from briefings or interviews, on the record statements, match sheets, and first hand observations. When we use secondary material we verify it against an independent source. We do not publish rumors as fact. If information is still developing we say so in the story.
Use of anonymous sources
We avoid anonymity unless there is a clear public interest and a risk to the source. At least one editor must know the identity of the source and the reason for anonymity. We provide as much detail as possible about the source’s knowledge without revealing identity.
Conflicts of interest
Writers and editors disclose any personal or financial interest that could affect their work. If a conflict exists, we reassign the story. We do not accept gifts, favors, or paid trips that could influence coverage. Event tickets provided for access are disclosed when relevant.
Data, statistics, and graphics
Numbers should be clear and traceable. We state the time period and definitions. For charts and tables we prefer simple designs that readers can understand at a glance. If a figure is revised later we update the story and note the change.
Photos, video, and editing standards
Images must reflect reality. We allow only basic adjustments that do not change meaning. We label composites, illustrations, or AI assisted visuals as such. Captions should identify the subject, date, and context. We respect privacy in sensitive situations.
Interviews and quotes
Quotes are exact. We correct minor grammar for clarity only when it does not change meaning. When we paraphrase, we make clear that we are not using the speaker’s exact words. Off the record rules are set before the conversation begins.
Opinion and analysis
Opinion pieces are labeled as Opinion. Analysis pieces explain the why behind the news and are labeled as Analysis. Both rely on facts and logic. They do not represent the publication’s institutional view unless stated.
Corrections and updates
We fix errors quickly and clearly. Minor fixes are updated in the text. Material corrections carry a note at the end of the article that states what changed and when. If a story develops, we add an update with the new facts and a timestamp. To request a correction, email editorial@mivtoa.com with the article title and the point you believe is incorrect.
Right of reply
When a story includes claims that could affect a person or organization’s reputation, we seek their comment before publication when possible. If we publish without a reply due to time sensitivity, we add it when received and note the time.
Coverage of minors and vulnerable people
We protect identities when disclosure could cause harm. We seek consent from a parent or guardian when interviewing minors in non public settings. We avoid sensational detail in stories about trauma.
Diversity and inclusion
We aim for a newsroom and a slate of sources that reflect the audiences we serve. Language should be respectful and free of stereotypes. We use names, pronouns, and self descriptions that people choose for themselves.
Safety and legal
Editors review sensitive stories for legal risk. We avoid material that could incite violence or hatred. We follow local law while defending the public’s right to know.
Advertising and commercial work
Editorial decisions are independent from commercial teams. Ads and sponsored projects do not direct coverage. Sponsored content is labeled as Sponsored or Partner Content. Editorial staff do not produce sponsored stories. We aim to keep ads light and avoid formats that interrupt reading.
Attribution and plagiarism
We do not copy other people’s work. When another outlet breaks a story that we also report, we acknowledge their role in the narrative while adding our own reporting and context. We credit photographers and creators.
Community standards
If comments are enabled, we remove unlawful or abusive content. We encourage on topic discussion. Repeat violations may lead to restrictions. For concerns about community behavior, email community@mivtoa.com with a link and a short note.
Accessibility
We design for readability. Pages should load fast. Text should be legible on mobile and desktop. Images use descriptive text where needed. Videos include captions when available. If you face a barrier, write to accessibility@mivtoa.com with the page and the issue.
Data and privacy
